Peaceful crowds brought life back to the temple for a landmark summer solstice. Energy flurried through drums via dancing and song. Lovers kissed in the arches. Wizards conjured. Druids circled. Friends from all over gathered again, many having walked from London and Brighton bringing stories of their pilgrimage. However, significant numbers of complaints have been made about the extra-bright security lighting which was in effect right up until minutes before sunrise time. This was apparently for safety reasons but I, for one, found the brightness blinding and hope they are deemed unnecessary in the future. And now the weather. . . . It was pissing down with rain. Next time travellers are advised to come prepared with large marquees and alternative power sound-systems so people can dance and keep warm maybe a short distance away from the stones. The police moved the last people on at eight o' clock in the morning as planned. There will be demand for access beyond noon time in 2001. So overall success if the experiment was to prove that thousands of people can gather at Stonehenge for the summer solstice without the need for the antagonising riot police factor. - Jes
Britain has been temporarily shut down by protesters. Hauliers, taxi-drivers and Welsh farmers with no thought for green issues and only self-interest at heart have proved modern life to be very fragile. The police did not use their powers to stop the protest. Only 4 protesters were able to shut down the refinery at Shoreham, Sussex yet a few people dancing around in a field or squat brings down the full force of the law (Exodus accepted - nice one). The people at the solstice celebrations need wind, bicycle, solar-powered generators and marquees etc in case of inclement weather. The people are not beasts of the field. Stonehenge walkers are in the light of the fuel crisis the vanguard of the green future.- Matt

When I think of you I think of seeds in a pod Dolphins leaping and bryony turning People's urge to eat the near-extinct cod. Fronds of green ferns unfurling. The ketamine unravels the mind to that space Wherein bright colours the pointy aliens linger Peruvian nasturtiums and Queen Anne's lace Self-transforming machine elves at the end of your finger Ultrasound genetic engineering cloning Druids bless em are anachronistic The stones need electrical sonic intoning To be truly millennial and cabbalistic. There is an idea to provide individual bank accounts for people starving in third world countries so that money can be transferred directly to them cutting out the middle-men to minimise corruption and exploitation. Money going astray will be withheld and manipulated by governments and military dictatorships.
Free the stones Free the earth From tyranny.
Free henge from clicks of cameras, tourists standing sullen and impotent, Free it from fools advertising, antisepticising it And Conceptualising ownership (Did the "English Heritage" raise the stones, In whose "Trust" did the Druids place their faith?)
Free it from violence, truncheon-bearing hands vandalising vehicles. Free it from the vandals Free it from conventionals (godless in their righteousness) Free it from uniforms - a visual, sensual smell Free it from senseless hate and her hooligans from Hell.
Let the fathers of Albion know their sweat was not in vain That their spirits are still known and the spirit of Love will wing.
Is there hope for Jerusalem In this blue and violent land; If at once all heads bowed down Would they ever understand
The prayer:
O! Spirit - safeguard the solstice Let us peaceful, fearless stay Let henge be soothed in stillness Jerusalem built, if only for a day.

Letter to September Stonehenge Newsletter:From: "Dice George" [[email protected]] To: [[email protected]] Cc: [[email protected]] Subject: lfk2000sept14 - first draft Date: 14 September 2000 05:12 == Letter From Karelia Thu14Sept2000 == June 2000 some of us walked as a family from London to Stonehenge (but nobody walked every step). Then half a night and dawn inside - it was wet and windy, good, cos loads more people could have been a problem clearing the Stones in time for English Heriticage to open their turnstiles at 9 a.m. as a-greed ... Me, I tin-whistled and danced to the real live drumming - I policed myself. Starman Bowie at Pilton was great, but I missed the Wailers, and Big Andy guitaring after PAIN on Tuesday... Big Green Gathering Stonehenge Exhibition bus, and Saturday night fluting with Stone drummers four hours, Sunday 12volt DG Lightshow @ RinkyDink with Nik, ShakShak, + Kangaroo Moon. Angel broke her leg but Sunch was OK. Little Elkie got killed by a car: yet another stupidly sad accident. Craig + Martine had another baby girl. 2 weeks at Cauldren Camp, babysat + fluted and lit and sorted 99% of our Rainbow Circle Politics re: a certain person's infamous rumours and animus.. Then more dancing at Exodus Fest. Next year... hang on, there's another Solstice in December - I want more Braziers and drums and mutual respect and love and understanding (not that I understand half of what's going on - it's a mad world!) your cousin, www.dicegeorge.com ==== orange phone 07970 378572 ==== |
